Soviet coup mastermind Yanayev dies
TOKYO, Japan - File photo shows Gennady Yanayev, who led the abortive 1991 Soviet coup and briefly declared himself president replacing Mikhail Gorbachev. Yanayev reportedly died in Moscow on Sept. 24, 2010, at 73 after a lengthy illness.
