OSAKA, Japan - Office workers without ties and jackets commute in Osaka, western Japan, on the morning of June 1, 2011, the first day of the Super Cool Biz summer casual attire campaign introduced by the Environment Ministry to cut down on electricity use.

    OTSU, Japan - Shiga Gov. Yukiko Kada poses with the traditional Malawi costume she wore to her office in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture on June 1 as part of the government's ''Cool Biz'' energy-saving campaign. Kada, who used to visit Malawi every year as an environmental researcher, says the Malawi costume is cool, inexpensive and easy to make. She says she paid 250 yen for the cloth and the costume is made simply by stitching up the armpits.
