Construction work at Mage Island
KAGOSHIMA, Japan - A dump truck and a bulldozer are seen during construction work on Mage Island, Kagoshima Prefecture, on July 2, 2011. The Japanese government plans to move U.S. aircraft carrier landing drills, provisionally conducted on Iwoto Island, to Mage Island in association with the transfer of carrier-based aircraft from the U.S. Atsugi naval base in Kanagawa Prefecture near Tokyo to the U.S. Marine Corps' Iwakuni Air Station in Yamaguchi Prefecture, western Japan, by 2014, as agreed under a 2006 bilateral accord.
