Kamikaze attack in Russia after Japan's surrender in WWII

VLADIVOSTOK, Russia - Margarita Afanasieva in Vladivostok in the Russian Far East on Aug. 11, 2011, talks about a story she heard from her father regarding a Japanese fighter aircraft that was shot down during an attempted kamikaze attack on a Soviet oil tanker off Vladivostok port on Aug. 18, 1945, three days after Japan's surrender in World War II. Her father was an engineer on the tanker.

            TOKYO, Japan - A four-member group from Tokyo Denki University sets off July 3 on a second attempt to travel around the world in a car converted to run on electric power. Masaharu Fujinaka, professor of electrical engineering at the university, and three of his students left the Kanda campus in Tokyo in the morning for Toyama, central Japan, where they will board a ferry for the Russian Far East city of Vladivostok. The 18,000-kilometer journey, expected to take about 100 days, will take them through Russia, Europe and the United States.
