Tokyo hit by heavy rain

TOKYO, Japan - Rescue workers transport by boat people who had been stranded in their cars inside a tunnel at Tokyo's Haneda airport due to heavy rain on Aug. 26, 2011. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, Tokyo saw its heaviest-ever torrential rainfall for the month of August the same day, totaling 90.5 millimeters per hour in Tokyo's Nerima Ward.

The tornado disappeared soon after with no casualties or damage reported, the Meteorological Agency said. The tornado, quite rare for Tokyo Bay, formed above the water about 25 kilometers east of Haneda airport, off Ichihara in Chiba Prefecture, around 5:50 p.m.
