'Groom throwing' festival in snowy area

NIIGATA, Japan - A man is tossed in Tokamachi, Niigata Prefecture, on Jan. 15, 2012, in a traditional annual festival held in the area on the Sea of Japan coast. Some grooms who got married in the previous year are thrown over a five-meter high slope into snow, originally in retaliation for taking women away from the village.
