93rd anniv. of massacre in Russia
IVANOVKA, Russia - Children offer artificial flowers at a cenotaph commemorating the 1919 massacre by the Imperial Japanese Army in the village of Ivanovka, Amur Oblast in the Russian Far East, on March 22, 2012, the 93rd anniversary of the event. On March 22, 1919, the Japanese army killed some 300 people in the village, according to records kept in the village. Japan dispatched its troops to the area as part of the Siberian Expedition undertaken by the allied forces of the western countries and Japan during the Russian Civil War.
