Display of cats, dogs after 8 p.m. at pet shops banned
TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows dogs on display in a pet shop in Tokyo's Odaiba waterfront area shortly before shop staff remove the animals from their cage on June 1, 2012. An Environment Ministry ordinance that bans pet shop operators from displaying cats and dogs after 8 p.m. to relieve the animals of stress took effect the same day, following criticism by animal rights groups of outlets that stay open until late at night.
