Renesas announces massive restructuring steps

The struggling chipmaker announced plans July 3, 2012, to close or sell eight of its 18 domestic plants and eliminate more than 5,000 jobs, as part of a massive restructuring aimed at shifting towards overseas production and focusing on profitable microcontrollers.
