"Red snow" on Greenland glacier
QAANAAQ, Greenland - Photo taken July 17, 2012, shows "red snow" on a Greenland glacier in the Arctic. A Japanese expedition team to the North Pole observed the same day an area of around 30 square meters colored red by the massive generation of microbes with red pigments as a result of rising temperatures.
