Anti-Japan protests in China
BEIJING, China - Protesters hold up a banner with a message reading "Chairman Mao, please wake up," during an anti-Japan demonstration in front of the Japanese Embassy in Beijing on Sept. 18, 2012, the anniversary of a 1931 incident that led to Japan's invasion of China. There have been widespread demonstrations in China since the Japanese government purchased three of the main islands in the Japan-controlled Senkaku group in the East China Sea, which are claimed by China, where they are referred to as Diaoyu.
