Japan, China mark 40th anniversary of ties amid tensions
BEIJING, China - A barricade, a precaution against anti-Japan demonstrators, is left in front of the Japanese Embassy in Beijing on Sept. 29, 2012, the 40th anniversary of the normalization of ties between the two countries. Japan and China marked the 40th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations as simmering tensions sparked by Tokyo's nationalization of a group of Japanese-administered, Beijing-claimed islands in the East China Sea showed no signs of subsiding.
