China finance chiefs to skip IMF meetings in Tokyo

TOKYO, Japan - File photo shows Chinese Finance Minister Xie Xuren (L) and People's Bank of China Governor Zhou Xiaochuan. The Chinese government will not send its finance chiefs to the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Tokyo, a Chinese government official said on Oct. 10, 2012, amid tensions between the two countries over a territorial dispute. Xie and Zhou have canceled their trip to Japan, the official said, despite earlier hopes among officials in Tokyo that they would join the event held by the two Washington-based multilateral development agencies, which started the previous day.
