Ex-PM Hatoyama announces retirement from politics

Hatoyama, who was the first prime minister following the Democratic Party of Japan's ascent to power in 2009, said on Nov. 21, 2012, that he will not run in the Dec. 16 general election for the House of Representatives and will retire from politics.
