Persian Gulf pearls
MANAMA, Bahrain - File photo taken in October 2010 shows a traditional dhow used for a variety of purposes including collecting pearls in Manama, Bahrain. Japanese researchers said on April 30, 2013, that Japan and Bahrain will jointly study pearl oysters in the Persian Gulf in a bid to revive the region's pearl hunting tradition, which has declined since the early 20th century.
