Arctic body grants observer status to 6 nations
KIRUNA, Sweden - A ministerial meeting of the Arctic Council, a high-level intergovernmental forum for promoting cooperation among the Arctic states, is held in Kiruna, northern Sweden, on May 15, 2013. The body granted permanent observer status to Japan, China, South Korea, India, Singapore and Italy, increasing their chances to gain a foothold in the resource-rich Arctic.
