UNESCO formally names Mt. Fuji as World Heritage site
FUJIYOSHIDA, Japan - Shigeru Horiuchi (L seated), the mayor of Fujiyoshida, a Yamanashi Prefecture city located north of Mt. Fuji, smiles while being surrounded by reporters in his office on June 22, 2013, as he hears over the phone that the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO decided to inscribe the 3,776-meter mountain on the U.N. agency's prestigious World Heritage List.
