"Ama" divers seek to keep tradition alive
KANAZAWA, Japan - Rookie ama Aoi Nakano, 18, (front) heads to dive for marine products, together with her grandparents who have handed down their traditional diving technique to Nakano, off Hegura Island, near the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, on Aug. 20, 2013. Ama divers make a living by collecting marine products from the sea in a traditional way -- diving without scuba gear or air tanks.
