Trial opens of Chinese rights advocate Xu Zhiyong
BEIJING, China - Supporters of Xu Zhiyong, a prominent Chinese human rights activist, hold up a banner demanding his release near Beijing's First Intermediary People's Court on Jan. 22, 2014, as his trial commenced at the court. Xu, charged with disrupting public order, remained silent during the morning session of his first trial to protest the illegality of the proceedings, his lawyer Zhang Qingfang said.
