Cenotaph for Chinese foster parents
KAGOSHIMA, Japan - A ceremony is held to unveil a cenotaph in Kagoshima, southwestern Japan, on Jan. 23, 2014, honoring the Chinese foster parents who raised Japanese war orphans left behind in China at the end of World War II. At center is Kenichiro Onitsuka, representative of a Kagoshima-based group of such Japanese children separated from their Japanese parents who had settled in the colonies that Japan established in China. 2nd from right is Li Tianran, Chinese consul-general in Fukuoka.
