TEPCO lets groundwater bypass Fukushima Daiichi plant

FUKUSHIMA, Japan - An official of Tokyo Electric Power Co. explains equipment for the company's so-called groundwater bypass system near a pumping well at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Fukushima Prefecture, northeastern Japan, on April 9, 2014. TEPCO began pumping groundwater from wells as part of an operation to release the water into the sea before it flows underground through the plant and gets highly contaminated.
