NIIGATA, Japan - The candy making display by Japanese confectioner Midori Matsuda for which she won the gold medal in the 2014 Union of International Bakers and Confectioners Junior World Pastry Championship is exhibited at her school in Niigata on April 26, 2014. The competition was held in Taipei in March 2014.

Pure gold Ebisu statuette displayed at Osaka jewelry shop

OSAKA, Japan - A 130-million-yen pure gold statuette of Ebisu, a Japanese deity known as the guardian of commerce, measuring around 40 centimeters in height and 32 centimeters in width, is displayed on Dec. 26, 2014, at jewelry shop Ginza Tanaka in Osaka's Shinsaibashi shopping district, western Japan. The display started the same day and will run until Jan. 12, 2015.

Diabetic student aims to defend title in aerobics world c'ship+

KUMAMOTO, Japan - Eiichi Omura, 17, a Japanese high school student who has diabetes, practices aerobics with his two sisters April 18. Omura, who needs five insulin injections every day, said he is hoping to defend his junior singles title at the Suzuki World Cup International Aerobics Championship to be held in Tokyo on April 20.
