Japan panel on collective self-defense
TOKYO, Japan - Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (L) receives a report from former Japanese Ambassador to the United States Shunji Yanai, who heads a panel of security experts, at the prime minister's office in Tokyo on May 15, 2014. The panel proposed that Japan defend allies under armed attack by lifting its self-imposed ban on the exercise of the right to collective self-defense, giving the nod to Abe's push for an overhaul of postwar security policy.
