Japanese director wins Cannes award

TOKYO, Japan - File photo shows Japanese film director Atsuko Hirayanagi. Hirayanagi's graduation movie from the Singapore branch of a New York school was selected for the second prize in the Cinefondation student film division of the 2014 Cannes Film Festival on May 22, 2014. It was the first award given to a Japanese filmmaker in the category, first created in 1998.
