      MINO, Japan - Local people celebrate the registration of Japanese traditional handmade paper called "washi" as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO on Nov. 27, 2014, at the city office building of Mino, where one of the registered washi products called "Homminoshi" is produced, in Gifu Prefecture, central Japan. Confetti made of Homminoshi was used in the celebration.

        NAHA, Japan - People gather to watch an annual Naha Giant Tug-of-War event on a main road in the central part of Naha, Okinawa Prefecture, on Oct. 19, 2014. The giant rope used for the event measures 200 meters in length and 1.56 meters in diameter, and weighs 43 tons. Around 17,000 people take part in the event by pulling the side ropes attached to the giant rope, with more than 250,000 people looking on.

                    Battle of Okinawa film group to disband in March

                    NAHA, Japan - Members of a civil group which has collected film footage of the Battle of Okinawa -- to highlight the misery of the war -- announce at a press conference at the Okinawa prefecture offices in Naha on Dec. 27, 2012, that it will conclude its activities on March 15 since it has fulfilled its mission. Established in 1983, the group has collected video footage from the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration and screened it, while producing documentary films that include testimonies from survivors of the battle.
