Tsukuba research institutes' landside experiment
TSUKUBA, Japan - The National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, northeast of Tokyo, conducts an experiment on Aug. 22, 2014, using heavy artificial rain to examine how a landslide occurs. The upper and lower photos show a slope before and after the rain, respectively. The experiment was carried out following massive mudslides in the city of Hiroshima.
