China's new "Martyrs' Day" ceremony
BEIJING, China - China's top leaders, including President Xi Jinping (L front) and Premier Li Keqiang (R front), observe a moment of silence at the Monument to the People's Heroes during a ceremony to mark Martyrs' Day, a new holiday in China, at Tiananmen Square in Beijing on Sept. 30, 2014. China says the holiday created earlier in the year commemorates people who died in revolutions and battles against Japan and other foreign powers and is aimed at nurturing people's patriotism.
