Majority of shared forest left unsold in western Japan
KOCHI, Japan - A majority of a cedar and "hinoki" cypress forest purchased by citizens through a shared forest investment scheme promoted by the Forestry Agency in the 1980s is left untouched in Shimanto, Kochi Prefecture, western Japan, in August 2014. The scheme was created to preserve forests and help cover a huge financial deficit of Japan's forest industry.
