Battery-powered train runs for 8.5 km
AKITA, Japan - A train made of specially hardened cardboard and powered by 99 D-size dry cell batteries runs on a disused rail line in the city of Odate in Akita Prefecture, northern Japan, on Nov. 2, 2014. The train, developed by Panasonic Corp. to highlight the performance of the company's latest dry cell batteries, ran for 8.5 kilometers in two hours carrying around 10 elementary school children. A total of 34 children rode the train in turns.
