Mobile hydrogen station for fuel-cell vehicles unveiled

NAGOYA, Japan - Officials cut the ribbon at a ceremony marking the opening of a site for a mobile hydrogen station for next-generation fuel-cell vehicles in the compounds of the Aichi prefectural government office on Dec. 18, 2014. The station, to be operated by Toyota Tsusho Corp., is expected to be fully launched for public use as early as June 2015.

                      The construction cost was not disclosed, but it is estimated to be several percent higher than the usual cost of about 600 million yen. The station will produce hydrogen using city gas from a medium-pressure pipeline. Carbon dioxide (CO2) generated in the process of mining and burning liquefied natural gas (LNG) is offset. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government plans to have more than 100 fuel cell buses in use by the end of this year, and the Toyosu Hydrogen Station will be responsible for supplying hydrogen to the city's fuel cell buses. Takashi Anamizu, vice president of Tokyo Gas, said on the same day that he expects the station's operation rate to increase significantly.
