STORYLINE:
Important archaeological discoveries were made in 2022 at the Shimao Site in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, according to the Shaanxi Academy of Archaeology on Thursday.
The ruins were a neolithic city built about 4,300 years ago and abandoned roughly 300 years later during the Xia Dynasty (2100-1600 BC), the first dynasty in China described in historical chronicles.
Archaeologists have unearthed high-grade cemeteries in the core area of Shimao Site.
At present, 15 vertical pit tombs dating back about 4,000 years have been discovered.
