STORYLINE:
France's major trade unions held a joint strike to protest against the government's pension reform on Thursday.
The RATP, Paris public transport firm, announced that the three metro lines 8, 10, and 11 would be completely closed and that the other 10 metro lines would run "partially" or only during peak hours. Only unmanned lines 1 and 14 were running normally, but they were very crowded. Only a quarter of the capacity of the Regional Express was available, while buses and trams were relatively less affected.
