STORYLINE:
Israeli forces clamped down Friday on protesters demonstrating in the town of Hawara, south of the West Bank city of Nablus. The protesters were there to show solidarity with local residents in the aftermath of last week's rampage by Israeli settlers.
The rampage on Sunday night saw Israeli settlers raiding the town, killing one Palestinian and injuring many others.
Local eyewitnesses told Xinhua that the Israeli army also shut down the nearby Hawara and Za'tara military checkpoints during the protest, as soldiers physically assaulted some of the protesters and fired teargas at them.
