STORYLINE:
Russia's Amur Tiger Center (ATC) released a 200-kilogram tiger back into the wild on Sunday.
The tiger has roamed close to human settlements in the northern part of Russia's Primorsky Territory in the past two years. It hunted a total of 34 dogs, and caused panic among local villagers.
Supported by ATC, inspectors from the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife Protection of Primorsky Krai set up a trap along a path that the predator has used to approach human settlements.
Examination showed that the tiger was healthy, well-fed, and had no visible injuries. It was then released into a sparsely populated area with a high density of ungulates, where no other male tigers were recorded.
