Osama Rabie, head of the SCA, said 56 ships with a net tonnage of 3.4 million tonnes passed through the canal from the north direction, while 51 ships from the south direction crossed the new navigational course of the canal with a total net tonnage of 2.9 million tonnes. He also said that the implementation of a project to develop the southern sector of the canal will allow an increase in navigational safety by 28 percent and in the capacity of the canal by about 6 additional ships.
