STORYLINE:
A Panamanian cargo ship drifting in waters near China's Nansha Islands due to mechanical failure has been safely towed to the Pearl River estuary, China's Ministry of Transport said on Friday.
Thanks to the rescue effort by the Nanhai Rescue Bureau, the 21 crew members on board were safe and sound.
When receiving the malfunction report of the ship, the bureau immediately dispatched a rescue vessel, and carefully formulated a towing plan.
The rescue vessel successfully towed the ship back under unfavorable weather and geological conditions after a 9-day voyage.
The Nanhai Rescue Bureau, established in 2003, is one of China's professional rescue organizations.
