The Qinling-Daba mountain areas of southwest China are rich in lacquer trees. Located deep in the Daba Mountains, Chengkou County in southwest China's Chongqing produces Damu lacquer with strong adhesion and high gloss. Fascinated by lacquer art, French artist Vincent Cazeneuve came to China 15 years ago with the aim of finding the suitable species of lacquer tree to make lacquer artworks. He had visited many places in China, and finally settled down in Chengkou. Affected by the temperature and water content of the lacquer trees, the time for lacquer collection is from March to October every year. Vincent must be fully prepared as contacting with raw lacquer liquids may cause allergies. It will take some time for the sap of lacquer trees to completely drain away. Swedish artist Torsten Jurell came to Jingdezhen, a world-famous "porcelain capital", in 2011 for the first time where he embarked on a new journey of art. Torsten Jurell's interest in China came from his father, an enthusiast in restoring Chinese porcelain. Torsten Jurell found Chinese porcelain a beautiful and special form of art since his childhood. Now he spends a few months in this city almost every year and gets in touch with many ceramists and traditional artisans here. Torsten Jurell works in various fields such as printmaking, ceramics and sculpture. In Jingdezhen, he tries to draw inspiration in Chinese mythology. "Jingdezhen is like a universe with infinite space for creativity and imagination. Delft, the Dutch city renowned for its blue pottery, launched on Saturday an international exhibition of pottery artworks that pays tribute to an ancient Chinese culture dating back thousands of years. The exhibition, entitled Echoes of Majiayao, brought together some 60 pieces of pottery artworks created by a group of 14 artists from nine countries, after they had returned from an artist-in-residence project led by Dutch artist Simone Haak on the Majiayao culture in north-west China.
