KENYA-NAIROBI-MATHARE SLUM-SCHOOL-BOOK READING

(230422) -- NAIROBI, April 22, 2023 (Xinhua) -- Liu Yimenghan passes a book to a student at Dream Building Service Association (DBSA) School in Mathare Valley of Nairobi, Kenya, April 19, 2023. The Mathare Valley, located in Nairobi, is the second largest urban slum in Kenya after Kibera. Dream Building Service Association (DBSA) is a non-governmental organization founded in 2014. The organization has been continuing and promoting charity work in Mathare area. Thanks to the efforts made in the past years, several schools in Mathare have been renovated. Many poor children have free meals for lunch and have a chance to receive scholarships. Dream Building Service Association (DBSA) built its own school in 2016 in Mathare. Ahead of the World Book Day which falls on April 23, the school received a batch of books. Liu Yimenghan, a DBSA co-founder, and other teaching staff here held a reading event in hope of enhancing and encouraging the habits of reading among pupils. (Xinhua/Li Yahui)
