Commemoration Of The Ceremony Of Toxcatl And The 502nd Anniversary Of The Slaughter Of The Templo Mayor In Mexico City
A pre-Hispanic dancer holds a snail during a procession on the occasion of the Toxcatl Ceremony in the Zocalo of Mexico City, which represents one of the most important festivals of the solar calendar of the ancient Nahua/Mexica of the era called Toxcatl, which, according to historical data from the National Institute of Anthropology and History, was celebrated in mid-May, at the end of the dry season, and referred to the period of heatwave and aridity experienced every year, before the arrival of the abundant rains that refresh the air and bring relief to the inhabitants of Mexico City.
