Recently, a common coot and four chicks were spotted in the West Lake in Hangzhou City, east China's Zhejiang Province.
Zhejiang's efforts to protect habitats and biodiversity have contributed to the increase in the population of many endangered species.
According to a survey conducted last year, over 12,000 species were recorded in Zhejiang, including 15 new species.
When Erik Solheim, former under-secretary-general of the United Nations and former executive director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) visited Huzhou City of Zhejiang on May 16, he praised China's efforts in protecting biodiversity.
