Members of SOPFEU, Société de Protection Des Forets Contre Le Feu, (Forest Fire Protection Company) fight forest fires burning in Quebec, Canada. With more than nine million hectares of land burnt, more than 20,000 residents evacuated and at least 400 fires still active, half of which are thought to be out of control, a series of staggering figures revealed on Wednesday by Canada's Minister of Emergency Preparedness, Bill Blair, show that the country is facing an unprecedented battle against raging forest fires. Ten new forest fires broke out in Canada on Friday, bringing the total number of forest fires in the country so far this year to 2,405, according to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre.
