STORYLINE:
A group of African researchers visited the southern part of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region earlier this week to learn the region's experience in combating desertification in the Taklimakan Desert.
The African researchers came to Xinjiang to attend a forum on desertification control, which was held last week.
The Taklimakan Desert, China's largest desert, has been at the forefront of sand control and desertification research by Chinese scientists for over 60 years. Practices such as planting desert shelter forests and building sand-control barriers have been successfully implemented there.
