Egyptian Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad announced on Wednesday the start of a two-day preparatory phase for a major study on the behavior of sharks on the Egyptian coasts of the Red Sea.
The Minister stated that the study targets three types of sharks, which are responsible for all recorded incidents of shark attacks in the Red Sea in recent years.
Fouad said that the first stage of the study involves collecting data on previous incidents. She indicated that the second phase, during which the sensors will be installed, will require a few months to monitor the behavior of the different types of targeted sharks, and that the third phase includes analyzing the data collected by the sensors at different time periods.
