For many years during the Dragon Boat Festival, people of several villages in the Lingnan area follow a tradition to row dragon boats to visit their "dragon boat's relative".
The 591-year-old Yanbu dragon boat has been enjoying a popularity in the border area of Guangzhou and Foshan, where dragon boat race has a long history, from as early as 1597. On that year, people rowing Yanbu dragon boat competed for the first time with another dragon boat from Pantang during the Dragon Boat Festival. Since then, villagers from both places forged a deep friendship and they established a "kinship" for the two dragon boats based on the age of the boats. The Yanbu dragon boat was called the "Qiye" (father), and the Pantang dragon boat was the "Qizai" (son).
