STORYLINE:
Heavy rains lashed the Indian capital of New Delhi on Sunday, breaking a 41-year record for rainfall in a single day.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi recorded a rainfall of 153 mm within 24 hours, ending at 8:30 am on Sunday. This marked the highest rainfall ever recorded in the month of July since 1982, shattering the previous 41-year record.
The heavy downpour caused waterlogging in several areas of the city, making it difficult for vehicles to move and impacting the public transportation system. The city's infrastructure, including the drainage systems designed to handle rainfall, faced a significant challenge as they struggled to cope with the large volume of water.
