Extreme Heat Scorches Barcelona
A person takes cover from the sun under a tree in the park of the Citadel, on July 18, 2023, in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Thirteen communities continue today on alert for very high temperatures, with special incidence in Aragon, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, where there is red warning (extreme risk) for values that reach up to 43ºC. In Barcelona, there may be historical heat records with up to 45ºC due to an extreme phenomenon, the heat dome, which consists of a mass of warm air trapped in a geographical extension during a determined period of time.
