More than 85,000 cases of acute watery diarrhea (AWD) with dehydration were reported since the beginning of this year in Afghanistan, according to a report released by the World Health Organization (WHO) Afghanistan on Tuesday.
Of the cases, 56.9 percent were children below five, and 49.3 percent were females, told the report.
The organization also noted that the AWD cases with dehydration were 21,233 in June, an increase of 5.9 percent compared to the previous month. A total of 11 associated deaths were registered, it added.
According to the WHO, diarrheal disease is the second leading cause of death in children under five years old.
