On September 1, 1939, the Third Reich attacked Poland when the school battleship ''Schleswig-Holstein'' began shelling Westerplatte. Poland was also attacked by the Slovak army allied with the Third Reich. During the celebration of the 84th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II, flowers were laid at the monument to the Soldiers of September and the ''Krakow'' Army at the Military Cemetery in Krakow.
