Earthquake Death Toll Near 3,000 - Morocco

The earthquake of magnitude 6.8 on the Richter scale, which struck late last Friday, September 8, in the High Atlas area of Morocco, has so far left about thirty aftershocks exceeding magnitude 3, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (CSEM), which has detected less seismic activity in recent days. More than 2,900 people have died and 5,500 have been injured as a result of the earthquake, according to a new official death toll released today by the Moroccan Ministry of Interior.
