Quake Death Toll Nears 3000 - Morocco

The earthquake of magnitude 6.8 on the Richter scale, which struck late last September 8 in the High Atlas area of Morocco, has so far left about thirty aftershocks exceeding magnitude 3, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (CSEM), which has detected less seismic activity in recent days. More than 2,900 people have died and 5,500 have been injured as a result of the earthquake, according to a new official death toll released yesterday, September 12, by the Moroccan Ministry of Interior. Adassil is a Berber village 30 km from the epicenter of the earthquake, in which 6 people died and which was completely destroyed. The rescue services have not reached this place.
